I've been a practicing Psychotherapist for 12 years. I received my degree in social work from Columbia University and am currently in my third year of advanced training in Psychoanalysis at the Westchester Center for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy.

What is Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis and Why Do They Work?

Psychotherapy and psychoanalysis are processes of self exploration which seek to enhance your daily life by providing relief from conditions such as depression and anxiety, helping you adjust to changes in your life, such as a new baby, and by helping you relate to the world in a more satisfying way.

Anxiety

Everybody knows what it's like to feel anxious -- the butterflies in your stomach when you have to meet a deadline, the tension you feel when your boss is angry, and the way your heart pounds if you're in danger.

Depression

Some people say that depression feels like a black curtain of despair coming down over their lives. It is not something you can “snap out of.” Many people feel like they have no energy and can't concentrate. Others feel irritable all the time for no apparent reason.

Infertility

Infertility can have far reaching effects on our lives...our sense of self, our sense of purpose, our sense of mortality, our sense of connection to loved ones, our sense of control.

Emotional pain does not always make itself known to us through our thoughts, it is often expressed through our bodies. Backpain, headaches, ringing in the ear, stomach problems and many other physical symptoms are expressions of emotions we believe we should not or cannot allow.

At our first visit we will talk about the issue or issues that have brought you into my office. I will begin the process of getting to know you. I will ask questions that will further my understanding of your situation and will help to begin the process of exploration. After a careful assessment and history we will talk about which treatment option feels right for you.
